If you’ve lost access to your Todoist account because your email account has changed, your third-party login isn’t working, or there’s a typo in the email address, don’t fret. This guide will walk you through your options to recover your Todoist account.
Check if you’re still logged in on any of your devices
Open Todoist on any of your devices and see if you’re still logged in. If you are, you can take a screenshot of your Todoist Account Settings:
- Click your avatar at the top-left.
- Select Settings.
- Click the Account tab.
- Take a screenshot of your Todoist account settings.
- Get in touch with us about recovering your account, and attach the screenshot to your message.
If you’re not logged in to your Todoist account on any of your devices, continue to the next step.
Provide a copy of your Pro or Business plan receipt
If you upgraded to Todoist Pro or Todoist Business, a receipt of your payment is sent to your Todoist account email address. Use the search feature of your email app to find any emails from Todoist with the subject line “Your [plan type] receipt”.
If you upgraded using an in-app purchase with Apple or Google, you’ll find your receipts in your App Store or Google Play Store account.
Then, take a screenshot of the receipt. Get in touch with us about recovering your account, and attach it to your message.
Provide payment details of the upgrade or renewal
If you upgraded through direct billing with Todoist, but you can’t find a copy of your receipt, you may have access to the payment card associated with the upgrade or renewal. Get in touch with us about recovering your account, and provide the following:
- Last four digits of the card that was charged
- Payment card brand (for example: Visa, Mastercard, JCB)
- Expiry date of your card
- Exact amount that was charged
- Date of the last charge
Our team will check and verify that you’re the rightful owner of the Todoist account.
Update your account password and email address
After verifying that you own the Todoist account, you’ll receive a special link to change the password of your account. Enter a strong password and save it in a safe place, so you’ll always have access to your account.
Then, change the account email to an active email address you currently use.

Watch out for typos! Check that you’ve entered your email address correctly before saving your changes in Todoist.
Start over: No proof of account ownership
If you’ve lost access to your Todoist account, and it was solely on the free plan, we won’t be able to verify account ownership and help you recover your account. The best way to move forward is to sign up for a new Todoist account with an active email address and strong password.
If you need any help setting up a new Todoist account, get in touch with us. We— Carol, Stef, Keita, and any of our other teammates—are eager to help you get back on track.
